I think you may be right... I thought initially that the bugs were the same as it seemed to be triggered by the splash screen in both cases and I also got the "IO error occured opening connection." warning in the .xsession-error log. But I do not get the "/usr/bin/gnome-session: malloc(): memory corruption" therefore it is maybe really another bug. I will file it soon(ish). It's probably two bugs anyway, cause closing the "Your session lasted less than 10 seconds" box leads to a crash as well (as reported by the Maximilien), but this gives Python error messages in the .xsession-error file.
