I can confirm this not only on Ubuntu 9.10, 32-bit on a Pentium 4, but also on Arch Linux 64-bit on a Core2 Duo, both running GNOME.

I've found that by making another window active then going back to Firefox fixes the issue. #11 works as well. It's still annoying, though.
