I believe its a problem with g-p-m because when I installed xscreensaver and used its power management, there were no issues at all but with xscreensaver but using g-p-m as power manager, the issue started coming up again. xscreensaver is an eye sore and does not have features that gnome-screensaver gives so I reverted it back.
