There is a patch against CVS upstream at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=361583#c28 that fixes this issue, but needs some testing: if anyone here would be willing to recompile to try it out, it'd be appreciated.

Jens: It sounds like your hardware is reporting faulty charge data, or not reporting anything at all... its probably unrelated to this bug.
