I see it on my Dell Vostro 1500 with Karmic. (VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c) )

Closing the lid results the backlight momentarily going out, then comes back on. From dmesg during a close:
