Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
     ver: 2:2.6.3-0
distro: ubuntu 9.04
kernel: severals, tried: 2.6.28 till 2.6.30 ( the latest is the best for now but the problem still occurs)

Can't set up lcd brightness through xbacklight or by /sys/video... gnome-power-manager is also not working, the gnome-applet is not working either..
the screen changes it's backlight while i'm connecting/disconnecting it to/from the power supply

the function keys are working in bios/grub, but after kernel is loaded they're dead... but i can see them in dmesg ...
this is probably related to the intel gma driver,
my gma is:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GME Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)
the chipset is ICH7 ..
the lappie is:
FSC AmiloUI3520

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Karmic Koala. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/. Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

Hi again,

erm Scott, there is one weird thing.. today my lappie didn't woke up after hibernate, i made hardware reboot and... now backlight is working great.. event through the fn keys..
but, there was some driver update before.. and maybe that's the thing...
well i can give all details/sysconfig so you can close this and the second bug, but i dunno what do you need ...

for this moment fn keys and screen brightness are working great...

sorry, David, but .. I'm the only person that have the posibility to control the backlight, all other amilo Ui3520 users, can't do that in either way, we're trying to solve that and we're still looking for the clue, why my lappie i so special... :/

Sorry if I misunderstood you. Do you mean that you or someone else can still reproduce the issue?

Well no problem ;) ...
and about the reproduction, it could sounds weird but, as fair as I know, I'm the only person that cannot reproduce it i.e. I'm the only person that got the backlight thingy workingall other users of fujitsu siemens amilo u3520 cannot make this... ;/
for example check this out:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-evdev/+bug/363326
i think the problem lives somwhere in the kernel but.. i'm not quite sure... if this help .. i can give all details what i did to get this thing working but.. the steps that helped me.. doesn't help others.. ;/ see the link I gave...

Oh, OK. Thanks for the clarification. I'll actually make this bug a duplicate of the other one since you both have the same laptop. Further discussion of the bug can continue there.
