Will also try mainline kernel soon. As for keypresses they are magic to me anyway:

capturing keypresses with xev, I get keypresses (including key codes) for some special keys, but not for the brightness ones. On the other hand, I also don't see anything thorugh xev when using the volume keys, but the volume is being changed correctly (OSD volume level changes).
