Would you mind running the following:

killall gnome-power-manager
gnome-power-manager --no-daemon --verbose 2>&1 gpm.log

...and then attaching gpm.log. I wonder if GPM is not grabbing the keys. Other than that, I'm a bit confused. I might have to ask someone to help me out here;)
