I take my second comment back; /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/* are not ignored. However,
1. I stand by my initial statement that /etc/acpi/suspend.d/* are ignored.
2. the usual tricks one uses to run X applications as the X user (setting up XAUTHORITY and DISPLAY) don't seem to work in /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d scripts
