Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

In Ubuntu karmic, afterr putting the system into standby and powering up again, it can occur that the panel hangs for an indefinite time.

This is: The icons in the notification area are not redrawn (but react normally) and menus do not open nor do starters react.

After some time, the panel wakes up again, working on all the requests it got earlier.

The attached screenshot shows the state where a wireless connection is established, but the NetworkManager icon is not redrawn.

As the panel does not really crash but goes out for lunch for an indefinite time, this is hard to debug for an end user.

Same problem here, gnome-panel appears to hang for about 50 seconds after resuming from suspended state.
Certain applets appear instantly (e.g. system monitor), others are invisible but respond to mouse events (e.g. volume control), and others are invisible and don't respond (menus, launchers).

Backtrace attached.
