I have a nautilus bookmark for "smb://192.168.42.4/".
Opening some nautilus window, then selecting it from the bookmarks menu works (no password required!).

Selecting the very same bookmark from Places->Bookmarks gives the error message:

Could not open location 'smb://192.168.42.4/'
No application is registered as handling this file
