the same happens on my system.
2.6.24-15-generic #1 SMP Fri Apr 4 03:48:31 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux
when left-clicking the clock, both top und bottom panel freeze.
also, adding a place to the applet works, but the data isn't saved.
