Bug Description

The game where I observe this is Magicite, however it seems to be the case for other steam games as well.

I run gnome-flashback session with compiz on Ubuntu 14.04.

When the game starts, the panel crashes and disappears. I have to restart it manually in a shell (it does not automatically respawn).

Apport retracing service (apport) wrote : Possible regression detected

This crash has the same stack trace characteristics as bug #1293252. However, the latter was already fixed in an earlier package version than the one in this report. This might be a regression or because the problem is in a dependent package.

Peter Schüller, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Does this issue occur with the latest release of Ubuntu via http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ ?

I need to boot from this live-cd and there install steam and the game to test it, is that correct?

I have another 14.04 ubuntu where the bug does not happen with the same game, so it might be hardware-specific.

As I have no memory stick here at the moment I tried some more things:
* the crash is reproducible in gnome-flashback compiz
* the crash is reproducible in gnome-flashback metacity
* the crash is reproducible in unity (when I manually start the gnome-panel)
* if I restart the gnome-panel while the game is running, it immediately crashes again

It is bug in libwnck and should be fixed in vivid - next ubuntu release. For more info:

There is ppa with fix...

Dmitry, can you backport fix at least to trusty?

I can confirm that the ppa in 1293252 fixes the crash.
