Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

Using Feisty.

- Open Adjust Date and Time panel (with super-user password; see bug 132795) from right-click menu on clock and change the time zone
- Click Close on the panel

Actual:
- Displayed time in gnome panel does not change

Expected:
- Displayed time immediately updates to show time in new time zone

You can "kick" it to update by adding or removing the seconds, or performing other formatting changes in the Preferences.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It should update the next time the clock rolls over, like in a minute, it doesnt for you? I mean without making other changes in the preferences than change the timezone. May you check?

If you have seconds displaying, it updates almost immediately. But I don't have seconds displaying, because the constant change is annoying.

If you don't have seconds displaying, it doesn't update the next time the clock rolls over from one minute to the next. I expected it to, but it doesn't. I've only waited two or three minutes - maybe it would fix itself eventually, I don't know. It does update itself when the clock rolls over from one _hour_ to the next, but that can be a long time to wait!

Is it difficult to have the control applet tell the clock to redraw itself completely whenever you change things?

I experienced a similar problem.

1) Right click the time
2) click "Adjust date and time"
3) Make the time one hour earlier.

The time then doesn't update. Only when the minute ticks over.

Changing the time FORWARD (ie. one hour forward, immediately changes the time displayed).

It's not intuitive, and gives the impression to users of incomplete/lower grade software.
