Bug Description

After activating the orca screenreader with alt-super-s keys the speech output initiates.
But the orca desktop key, i. e. insert, combined with a command, e. g. space, is not working.
Expected result: orca settings window opens.
Actual result: nothing happens.

I checked the received keycodes: both keys are responding correctly.
Affected package and binary:
gnome-orca: /usr/bin/orca

Affected distribution:
ubuntu 16.04 LTS

Thanks a lot!

Do other Orca keyboard keystrokes work? Where were you when starting Orca? What happens if once you have started orca, you log out and back in again? Do things work then as expected?

I cannot test further, now the screenreader does not turn on at all and logging out and in does not change it.

The screenreader does not talk anymore, which it previously did.
The Process of orca is availabe:
 5905 ? Rl 3:38 /usr/bin/python3 /usr/bin/orca

Do you have any clue what happened?

Urm... no. Are you able to create a new user account and try and start Orca there? If so, what happens?

OK. After reboot speech is back again. F1 key has Ubuntu help, when in settings. and orca-key+F1 has no effect.

In settings of 14.04 lts I changed keyboard activation to on and orca-key works with space and F1.

Same not true for 16.04 lts.

Hurray, I saw Orca Settings once! But insert+space does not react anymore. Additionally keyboard shortcuts for switching orca on/off is not responding immediately, when screen is read.

Where does orca log to? I did not see logs in var/log...

Hello leder,

Could you try with caps lock+space? Did the issue come after an upgrade?

Best regards.

Hello Alex,

caps lock+space does nothing. But insert + space is bringing the settings
now! Tested with ubuntu 16.10... ticket can be closed.

Best regards
