I've had a similar problem when trying to mount my USB key with LUKS volume on it.
Attached in [0] is the logs created for "dapper" as describes in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingRemovableDevices
Cryptsetup version - 2:1.0.4+svn26-1ubuntu2
--- Scenario
First: I had to create my LUKS volume manually, unfortunately :( Hope this will be added as a feature as well... I did test it and it works. [1]
I plug in my usb and it asks for password [2]
It doesn't mount anything, but give me an hal error [3] similar to the one Darren, describes.
