Bug Description

Ubuntu 8.04 alpha 4 i386 desktop CD

I just booted the lice CD, got an error dialog and started firefox to file a bug.
Tried to bring the dialog to foreground (using the alt-tab keys), to copy over the text, but it does not work. Neither can I click it on the task bar (because it isn't present there).

I had to move the covering windows away or minimize them one by one.
Like in the eighties.

Note: I selected "3dwm" as package, because the form did not want to accept the "I don't know" option.

Thanks for your bug report.
You are not providing enough information, what was the exact error message you did get? We need to know where the dialog comes from, perhaps you can find out as described here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage or provide a screenshot of the error dialog.

Here is how to reproduce it with 8.04 alpha 5 i386 dekstop CD:
 - boot the CD
 - select menu Places / Computer
 - select menu Applications / Accessories / Terminal
 - in the file browser windows right click first icon, labeled "CD-RW/DVD+RW Drive" and in the popu menu select "Eject"

An error dialog pops up : "Unable to mount media."

Now this dialog behaves as described in the original report, I quote:

alt-tab keys ... does not work. Neither can I click it on the task bar (because it isn't present there).

I don't remember.
Go make any error dialog and try alt tabbing.

OK, here is is reproduced on an installed 8.04 i386 system:
 - boot and login
 - select menu Places / Computer
 - select menu Applications / Accessories / Terminal
 - in the file browser windows right click first icon, labeled "CD-RW/DVD+RW Drive" and in the popu menu select "Eject"

An error dialog pops up : "Unable to mount media. / There is probably no media in the drive."

This was a simple default install in VMWare, so if you can not reproduce it, then close the bug, because I don't see what more can I contribute.

I could reproduce this in 8.10.

Open menu Places / Computer
Right click on your cd/dvd player, choose Eject (make sure you didn't have any cd, and that it's not mounted).
An error dialog should popup.
Try alt-tab to another application.
Now try to alt-tab back to the error dialog. You can't. It's in the background and the only way of getting it back is to minimize every other window.

The error dialog is raised by gnome-mount.

It should be raised in a way that it should be accessible through alt-tab, or that it should appear when we alt-tab to the Computer window.
