Well, this bug only makes the application unusable if you install BOTH hipo and gnome-lirc-properties. If you can convince the motu-sru team that it is worth an sru then it can fixed for hardy too, the procedure is here:

I just opened an hardy task, if you want subscribe motu-sru and provide a statement explaining the impact of the bug on users and a justification for backporting the fix to the stable release. Be prepared to answer any question they may have, I will provide support if needed and prepare the sru if accepted.
