Same thing here (Lucid, kernel 2.6.32-22) after I installed thinkfinger.

nm-applet, rhythmbox, empathy stopped working, some other apps started to behave weird.

After reading this bug report I started to log in using my password and everything seems to work as it should.
Hope this will be fixed soon.
