I'm having similar problems with xorg-randomly the graphical session terminates and returns to the login screen.
Ubuntu 12.04_amd64-LTR.
Intel I5-750 CPU quad, no hyperthread
Asus P7P55D-E mobo
WD Caviar 1 tb hdd
WD 160 gb ide hdd-am using this for 12.04 right now.
8gb ram
9800GT GPU-295.40 Nvidia drivers
Seasonic 650w 'gold' PSU
Triple boot: Ubuntu 11.10_amd64, Windows 7 Professional amd64, Ubuntu 12.04_amd64
Temps all in spec.

This is the 1st time I've ever done a clean install which is pretty much unuseable.
