Bug Description
The steps to change "Default Applications", in Ubuntu 12.04 (beta 2), don't make any sense to me. Here's what you must do:
(1) Right click on Power button icon (top-right on desktop)
(2) Click System Settings.
So far, so good.
(3) Click "Details" icon
*** What? Every system setting is a "detail"! How would anyone know to look there for "Default Application" modification? ***
(4) Click Default Applications
I propose that we either (1) Make an icon for "Default Applications" in the main System Settings panel OR (2) do what you've done with "Startup Applications"; place it right there in the power button's menu.
Note: Even if you make an icon especially for default applications, it can still open up to the same management window as before (see image attachment).
This bug report is a usability issue. I hoping to make "Default Applications" easier to find for new users.
The fact that "Default Applications" doesn't work right now, is another bug that we should subscribe to as well (to emphasize its importance):

It needs more of a upstream change in gnome.
