I did include a screenshot but for some reason LP did not save it with the bug.

I don't think this is related to the other bug, there are icons in that other screenshot.

What icon theme do you use? Could you run gnome-control-center on a command line and copy the log there?

could you get a "strace gnome-control-center 2>&1 | grep control-center-1" log?

I'm seeing the same problem on a machine I just upgraded from Natty to Oneiric last night. Control center was fine before, but is now empty. Re-installing the gnome-control-center and gnome-control-center-data made no difference - nor did logging in as a different user.

g-c-c shows up empty in my user account, and in a new test account, whether i log in from lightdm or gdm. running it from a term produces no output at all.
but i noticed that it does work _inside_ lightdm if with the unity theme set.

What do you mean "_inside_ lightdm", Kenneth? Earlier in your post you said it doesn't work when you log in from lightdm, so I don't quite grok your meaning.

Still broken here - with all available updates installed. I have my DM set to GDM because of /bad experiences/ with lightdm early on.

with universe enabled install unity-greeter, then edit /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf
Uncomment / change greeter theme to unity
greeter-theme=unity
restart lightdm and click in upper right corner next to clock. you will see the familiar logout menu.
clicking system settings brings up gnome-control-center for me with at least some icons.
if i then log in the window stays, but newly opened ones in my user session still don;t work.

i'm unsure if this is related

i'm still experiencing this problem. with all updated packages. No PPAs installed, i even tried removing all packages from universe and restoring al package configs to default, and a new user account. no luck. this install was upgraded from maverick. i can't test a new install at the moment because the cd drive is toast.

Not sure about everyone else, but I just checked it again today and it appears to be fixed! I know it was still broken as of last weekend, so... it was fixed sometime in the last four days or so.

Can you others confirm that you no longer see the problem either?
