Bug Description

Hi,

I feel like when you click a second time on the Trash applet, it should close the Trash window instead of opening a second one. Who needs two Trash windows? Personnaly, this is really not the action I was expecting when clicking on the Trash applet a second time.

Typically what I want to do with this applet is to look at what's inside the Trash and/or empty it.

To look at it, i click on the icon, and it opens the Trash window. I don't even move my pointer from the icon when i look at what's inside the Trash. When I've seen what's inside, I intuitively click again on this icon, expecting this action to close the window.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like this behavior would be more intuitive.

Can you include the steps taken to get two trash windows? e.g.

Steps to reproduce:
1. On an empty desktop in GNOME click on trash icon at the bottom right. Wait for the window to appear.
2. Start a gnome-terminal.
3. Click on the trash icon again.

Expected results:
Existing trash window to to be closed.

Actual results:
Second trash window appears.

Thanks for your bug. It acts the same way as any directory put on the panel by drag and drop. Your behaviour would mean programming a trash application rather than opening the nautilus view on the folder. I'm rejecting that bug, feel free to argue upstream if you strongly think that should be done an another way, we are not going to rewrite that app differently from upstream just because of that

I think that a second click on the Trash icon should bring the Trash window to focus if it's already open.
And for that matter, the same thing should happen to any folder opened from the panel.

I agree to Joachim. This is a bug. It should work the way Pidgin, Rhythmbox or Deluge works. If the window is already open it should minimize. It is a small bug but it is annoying

Is there any particular reason this is marked invalid? I think this is a perfect papercut... and am nominating it as such.

1. It's not trivial to fix because window tracking is involved, so it's not a paper cut.
2. The solution described doesn't cover common cases where users actually want to open the trash window, but have unknowingly left another trash window minimized/underneath another window/on another workspace.
