Shouldn't this bug be filed under libmtp8 package instead, since apparently that's the source of the problem. Using libmtp8 from karmic is a workaround, not a solution.

At this time on an up to date Lucid installation,
When MTP device is plugged in and mounted automatically:
$ gnomad2
Device 0 (VID=04e8 and PID=507d) is a Samsung YP-U3.
Queried Samsung YP-U3
Segmentation fault

Upon unmounting:
$ gnomad2
Device 0 (VID=04e8 and PID=507d) is a Samsung YP-U3.
Queried Samsung YP-U3
Bus error
