Bug Description

Binary package hint: nscd

After installing 2.4-1ubuntu9 from edgy, nscd starts Ok. However, on subsequent reboots, it will fail to start with the above error message.

Actually, the bootup problem is different - running '/etc/init.d/nscd start' will silently fail - the following messages appear in syslog:

/var/run/nscd/nscd.pid: No such file or directory
/var/run/nscd/socket: No such file or directory

Creating /var/run/nscd fixes this problem, but this needs to be done every time the system boots. Executing '/etc/init.d/nscd restart' fails regardless.

Same problem here. Had to add the creation of /var/run/nscd to a local start script.
In /etc/init.d/nscd, I replaced

$DAEMON --invalidate

with

$DAEMON --invalidate passwd
$DAEMON --invalidate group
$DAEMON --invalidate hosts

to get past the restart problem.
