gksudo does not follow GNOME password hiding style

Bug Description

When typing a password into gksudo the password characters are blobs rather than asterisks. In some other GTK/GNOME programs other than xscreensaver the password replacement characters are asterisks (*) rather than blobs (●).

The password character should be shared across the desktop and not done at an individual program's whim...

Now that https://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=7714 redirects to this bug can this be confirmed? I have tested this in dapper flight 3 and programs like gaim or nautilus (when connecting to a passworded network server) still show different password characters to programs set to use gksu like synaptic.

Perhaps it would be interesting to collect here a list of applications which are still using asterisks rather than round filled circles (blobs?). This may include also KDE applications. For example:

evolution bug 13943
gnome-ssh-askpass bug 14084

However, this is a change that must be done in each application, isn't it? So, it would make sense to have separate bug reports for each application in order to track their progress separately. Currently, bug reports for evolution (bug 13943) and gnome-ssh-askpass (bug 14084) have been marked as duplicates of this bug.

Finally, my opinion is that all applications should use the default character, which should be defined by the current desktop theme. The Ubuntu/Kubuntu theme could use a round filled circle while other "80s-styled" themes may prefer the asterisk.

The corresponding GNOME bugzilla number is 83935, "GtkEntry's default invisible char should be U+25CF". Issues commented on that bug report are worth reading.
