I change the type of the image by selecting the filetype in the field of the save-as dialog.
Well, if I don't change the file name then it does change the extension correctly (e.g. from .png to .gif).
But if I type in a new name -- without entering a extension -- and change the file type then the save as dialog doesn't automatically change/add the corresponding extension.
=> It seems that this is not a Gimp bug. It rather refers to the gnome-save-as dialog.
