Downgrading to ghostscript 9.06 (last version from Quantal) along with dependencies and putting it on hold did the trick for me:
hi ghostscript 9.06~dfsg-0ubuntu4 i386
ii ghostscript-x 9.06~dfsg-0ubuntu4 i386
ii libgs9 9.06~dfsg-0ubuntu4 i386
ii libgs9-common 9.06~dfsg-0ubuntu4 all
