The issue you describe also seems to impact gedit not samba, why did you report it against that component?

Actually, i tried to play a video on my machine using vlc ( i.e; after changing the Display Manager to XFCE). This is the actual problem. Can you look into it once: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1824345
