It will affect you if you have a previous version installed due to differences in tools.xml - someone should have predicted it when altering the source code..
Type that in terminal (in your user folder):
rm /.config/gedit/latex/tools.xml
rm /.config/gedit/latex/latex.pkl

Any crash after that?
