I too am affected by this bug

The device is a Dell Vostro 5470 with Intel integrated graphic card + Nvidia GT740M using
driver version 375.66.

The bug appears when doing a clean install of Ubuntu gnome, changing the nouveau driver to proprietary 375.66 and rebooting. Upon reboot the login screen doesn't show (all black with display on)

The same happens with Ubuntu 17.04 and even 16.04
but only with gnome desktop. unity works just fine.
