Hi again brunus,

From Gnome Login Screen setup window I made sure XDMCP is enabled on both machines, restarted both, logged from B into A as I earlier described but the server still replies that it is unable to open display "".

Is there a different method to enable XDMCP I might try? Why the system returns what seems to be an empty string as the display number?
