I have the same bug. Gutsy (GDM) tries to XDMCP to Gutsy. See the relevant /var/log/syslog messages on the client side attached. The server side does not log anything to /var/log/syslog. Changing to "simple" ("einfach" in german) interface has no effect. BTW, I use the "fglrx" driver.
This is a bad thing, graphical remote login is an essential feature on Linux desktops. I would like to help out if I can do anything.
