I complete these steps some time ago and still works on new installs of 9.04.
these are from memory but i hope they can help you.

if you have this problem "I set up a wireless network. Set my account to auto-login. Whenever I start machine, I get a dialog that nm-applet wants access to keyring, enter password." then this may help.

1. On the first login to your desktop set up your wireless connection
2. you will be prompted to enter your keyring.
3. restart your computer
4. login again, you will be prompted automaticly for your keyring password. do not enter it!
5. Right-click on the Network Manager and choose "edit connections"
6. Goto your wireless tab and choose the Auto wireless connection there and edit it.
7. you will again be prompted to enter your keyring password to read the wep/wpa/etc key you had entered.
8. in the dialog box be sure to choose "allways allow"
9. the next time you restart you will not be prompted for your keyring pass.
