I had a problem similar to this when I was trying to debug Firefox on Gentoo, and while searching for a solution I came across this bug report.
Rebuilding glibc and gdb fixed it for me. So I think It's caused by updating the kernel without rebuilding glibc/gdb against the new kernel.
