Can you try the following in your first running session? Mount some ftp or sftp filesystem using Nautilus, make sure you can browse it. Then go to ~/.gvfs, you should see those mounts there. Check again if you can browse the mounts. I was wondering if the gvfs-fuse-daemon works as expected for you.
