Bug Description

Binary package hint: funguloids

When trying to install Funguloids i get this error message:

The following packages have unmet dependencies.
  funguloids: Depends: ogre-plugins-cgprogrammanager but it is not installable
E: Broken packages

I have all the repositories enabled (see attached sources.list) and packages.ubuntu.com confirms the file is missing.

I hope you understand why we ask for an UBUNTU build log:

 -> Considering build-dep libogre-dev (>= 1.4.6)
      Tried versions: 1.4.5-3build1
   -> Does not satisfy version, not trying
E: Could not satisfy build-dependency.
E: pbuilder-satisfydepends failed.

All the other build-depends seems ok:

debhelper (>= 5), quilt, libtool, automake, pkg-config, nvidia-cg-toolkit (>= 2.0), libfreetype6-dev, libfreeimage-dev, libzzip-dev, libogre-dev (>= 1.4.6), libogre-dev (<< 1.4.7)

Confirmed here. The package is kind of useless as it is atm, but the game is great.

Wooh...

Guess this means it'll get fixed in 8.10?

Not with current nvidia-cg-toolkit, which requires internet access to be available during the build of ogre-contrib.
We have talked about this with nvidia but until they change it it won't be possible to build in our buildd any package that build-depends on it.

Hrm.

But getdeb.net somehow managed to provide a Funguloids package before:
http://www.google.ca/search?q=site%3Agetdeb.net+Funguloids&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=com.ubuntu:en-US:unofficial&client=firefox-a

Or what they did doesn't fit in ubuntu standards?

ogre 1.4.9 sync requested in bug 253582
nvidia-cg-toolkit 2.0.0015.deb1 sync requested in bug 253584
ogre-contrib 1.4.9 sync requested in bug 253585
funguloids 1.06-7 sync requested in bug 253586
ogre-doc-nonfree 1.4.9.dfsg1-1 is not yet published in Debian and therefore cannot be synced

Note that funguloids will still be not installable since ogre-contrib will still fail to build in the buildd.

affects: funguloids (Ubuntu) → ogre-contrib (Ubuntu)

I can confirm, this is still an issue in ubuntu 9.04.

the required packages can be downloaded from the debian-sid online repos. but theres a lot of other packages that 'ogre' depends on, that would need to be installed also. some of them are also available in the new karmic repository

yes, there are also several other packages, especially among games, that are installable because of this ogre-something package dependency. And since those games are listed within Ubuntu Software Center, I suppose it could be quite annoying for people that decided to install those few games ;)

fix committed 2008-07-27? i'm still seeing this in 9.10 a year and a half later

if theres some nvidia politics causing this the either drop the package or remove the nvidia dependency
just leaving a dead package in the repo for nearly 2 years now is far from ideal
and reflects badly on ubuntu...

I second chris_c's comment, it makes no sense to have the game in the reposiory for now.

Same bug, same exact error message, same exact package uninstall-ability, over two years and running. Is anyone working on this?

WORKAROUND:

$ sudo apt-get install libogremain-1.6.4

Then follow this link to download ogre-plugins-cgprogrammanager:

http://packages.debian.org/sid/ogre-plugins-cgprogrammanager

The package links are at the bottom of the page. As other comments in this thread note, an internet connection is required for the ogre-plugins-cgprogrammanager package to configure itself.

Finally, install Funguloids itself.

$ sudo apt-get install funguloids

Now that I've successfully installed it, here's hoping it works...

Meh, it were all moot -- the game consistently segfaults on me. This may be due to my crappy old graphics card, an ATI RV380 [Radeon X600]. Anyone else care to try?

Eirikr, I followed your steps with nvidia 9500m and got the same segfault.

I really do not understand why ubuntu keeps this in the repositories (and in the software centre too!). What is the point in keeping an uninstallable package?

Well my graphics card isn't old - HD4870 and I followed the Eirikr steps too. Got the same segfault whenever I try to start it. I saw some patches on the official sourceforge page - "Set of patches, including one that enables Funguloids to work with Ogre 1.6", but didn't understood how can I use them...

That's actually wrong, funguloids will install fine in maverick since ogre-plugins-cgrpogrammanager could finally be built with the new nvidia-cg-toolkit package.

$ rmadison ogre-plugins-cgprogrammanager
ogre-plugins-cgprogrammanager | 1.6.4-1.1 | maverick/multiverse | amd64, i386
