As reported, Freeplayer isn't able to work with VLC 0.9.x (Intrepid and newer release of Ubuntu).
As described on Ubuntu-fr.org (http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/freeplayer), the workaround is :
Edit the file : '/usr/bin/vlc-fbx'.
Delete "–wx-systray" from the file
Replace : –config="~/.vlc/vlcrc-fbx" by : –config="~/.config/vlc/vlcrc"
Then install libavcodec-unstripped-51 for Intrepid ; and libavcodec-unstripped-52 for Jaunty.
Maybe is it possible to commit a patch?
