Thanks for your report. It sounds like some kind of hardware glitch.

I suggest that you open a terminal window and run:

sudo apt-get purge fonts-droid
sudo apt-get install fonts-droid

Please let us know if that fixes the issue.

Dear Gunnar

The solution you told me to do did not work.

I think its best that i told you the hole story what happens to my laptop a Acer Aspire E1-570.

2 weeks ago i was starting up my laptop when the energy cable shoot lose from the laptop and ubuntu crashes. When i was trying to start up again i did't not see my background and saw just the following tekstlines. 1 to start up ubuntu(when I try this i got a eror "reading from sector 0x9b6b38 'Hb0'fail)
the second tekst line was to go in to ubuntu advance(It was then possible to run a recover program)
The 3rd tekstline was to go directly to the BIOS.

I could not reinstal ubuntu becaus the laptop did not see my dvdplayer and usb stick.

My brother said the te sector failor was probely a harddisk error.

The strange thing was that i could see by using the rootcommand to show the directory on the harddisk my tekstfiles

So I thought that my harddisk was not destroyed. But maybe have sum bad sectors

I ask my brother if hy could somehow reinstal ubuntu.
He found out that the bios boot command was standing on UEFI instead of Lagacy.

Now he could install ubuntu.
The nex problem that came up was that it was not possible to get in to ubuntu,
Ubuntu ask for a password and my password faild.

So i reinstall ubuntu but now i get problems with some packages like the font package.

Tonight i reinstall ubuntu again in the hope that it would solve my problems
but it stil cannot reinstal some packages.

So my question to you(and i hope my english is got enough)

Do I have some bad sectors on my harddisk and if so how do i solve this. Is there a commandline to check de sectors on my harddisk like windows have.

Or do you have any idea what could be the problems and how to solve it.

Thanx for your time
Greetings
Rudolf

I'm afraid that the series of problems you describe are far above my head. You are apparently seeking advice, but this is a bug report and hence not the right place to do so.

I suggest that you ask a question at <http://askubuntu.com>. You should try to make the question as specific as possible to increase your chances to get help.

Closing this bug.
