Bug Description

Binary package hint: fontconfig

Small fonts (8pt or less) are ugly in all applications.

I have tried removing '~/.fonts*' and reconfiguring fontconfig.

I am using Kubuntu Edgy.

What exactly do you mean by ugly? That those small fonts are not anti-aliased? There is a setting in System Settings -- Appearance -- Fonts to allow you to disable anti-aliasing for certain font sizes. Maybe it's checked? By the way, whenever you change ~/.fonts* you have to run "fc-cache" and/or log out and back in for the changed to take effect.

Not, it is not checked. I actually have tested (almost) all possible combinations of those settings and they didn't make any difference for those small fonts.

I didn't know that I had to run fc-cache but I restarted the x-server with many different settings and that didn't make any difference either.

Anyway, because of other reasons, I had to reinstall edgy and the fonts are ok now. I will try to find out which package that I installed before (if any) caused the problem.
