Linus is right - looking at the memcpy patch comments ( http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lib.glibc.alpha/1527 ) shows it is going backwards. One of the CPU feature tests that must pass before this memcpy is used is called HAS_FAST_COPY_BACKWARD.
