Adding export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 to /usr/lib/firefox/firefox didn't work for me.

However, since flah-plugin crashes under a 16 bit colordepth X session, editing /etc/X11/xorg.conf and changing the colordepth to 24 solves the problem for me.
