I also have this bug. I think it is worth mentioning that it is not firefox-specific: Chromium and Arora also suffers from this problem.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 w/ Intel GM965. The flickering occurs even if the desktop effects are switched off.

Maybe this problem is related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox-3.5/+bug/484976 ?
