Bug Description

Binary package hint: flashplugin-nonfree

- After a fresh install from Feisty, upgraded to Gutsy, I install flashplugin-nonfree from Firefox (visiting a web page using flash and clicking on the "install plugin" button.
- I restart Firefox and browse the same page
- Flash doesn't work and Firefox display the "install plugin" button again. If I click it, I have the message : "flashplugin-nonfree is already installed"

Downloading the official flashplayer and copying the libflashplayer.so file into ~/.mozilla/plugins/ resolves the problem...

PS: The problem is solved in hardy.

A lot of people report this bug in #ubuntu-it on freenode. I have no idea why flashplugin-nonfree doesn't work

The problem is that the libflashplayer.so is not installed at all
A "sudo find / -name libflashplayer.so" doesn't return anything after
the installation

I can confirm this bug. I recently installed Gutsy onto a friend's laptop. Ubufox worked perfectly to install flash-nonfree, but youtube still thinks flash is not installed. This needs to be fixed very quickly. It's apparently an easy fix, since flash-nonfree is installed, but the plugin file just isn't created in the correct directory (or at all).

Is this an ubufox problem? or a flash-nonfree deb problem?

I confirm this.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Install a clean Ubuntu 7.10
2. Open Firefox and go to a page that uses Flash animations
3. Use the installer to install flashplugin-nonfree, then restart Firefox
4. Go to a page that uses Flash and then see how Firefox - again - wants to install a Flash plugin

Problem: installing the flashplugin-nonfree does not provide Firefox a recognizable Flash plugin.

It seems as if the issue is fixed with version flashplugin-nonfree_9.0.48.0.2+really0ubuntu12.2_i386.deb (available in Gutsy after about Feb 8th)

A lot of work has been done on the latest plugins which now use xembed. Can someone else confirm that this update fixes this issue?
