When I navigate to the www.adobe.com website, it says I need to install the latest Flash plugin... I seem to be stuck.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in flashplugin-nonfree.

try uninstalling the package again:

sudo aptitude remove flashplugin-nonfree

restart firefox

navigate to a page containing flash content. firefox should give you a yellow border on the top of the page concerning missing plug-in. click it and install flash this way.

if still not working have a look at about:config and maybe post contents here...

The checksum mismatch, bug 173890, occurred due to the release of Adobe Flash 9.0 Update 3 on December 4th, AFTER this bug was filed.

Cyrus Jones : Can you download and install this package from ubuntu repositories :

http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/i/ia32-libs/ia32-libs_2.1ubuntu3_amd64.deb

And then try to install flash again through firefox? This workaround seems to work for bug #155015 .

Sorry for the delay, I have been busy and away from my computer for several days (I have many emails).

I have that package installed through an update.

I uninstalled the version of flash that I had before and then went into Firefox. This time, Firefox apparently gave me no way to install package through repositories (Ubuntu 7.10 has apt based plugin management for Firefox). The repository package (Bug 173890) is the same as it always has been. I therefore reinstalled the package I had built.

And yes, Bug 155015 is fixed, though Launchpad Janitor already said that five days ago.

I don't see any comment from the initial reporter NZJon. The status of this bug is set to confirmed, but is there anybody who can reproduce this bug? Unless this bug can be confirmed by at least two people, the status should be "new" or "incomplete"

NZJon : Can you re-install flashplugin-nonfree from Gutsy-proposed updates and tells if it works?

NZJon : Thanks for your comment. The latest fixed flashplugin-nonfree package is in gutsy proposed. Can you activate the gutsy-proposed repository in the synaptic package manager and install flashplugin-nonfree version 9.0.115.0ubuntu4 ? You can do that by following these steps :

1. Open the Synaptic package manager
2. Click on Settings / Repositories
3. In the "Ubuntu Software" tab, check everything
4. In the "Updates" tab, check "gusty proposed"
5. Then close this window and click on the "reload" button of synaptic to reload the package database
6. Install the latest version of flashplugin-nonfree

You can also take a look at these 3 screenshot which demonstrate how to do this :

http://upload.leservicetechnique.com/bugs/Synaptic1.png
http://upload.leservicetechnique.com/bugs/Synaptic3.png
http://upload.leservicetechnique.com/bugs/Synaptic4.png

Once you have followed these little steps, can you confirm if you still have problems with flash on Gutsy 64bit? Thanks for your contribution.
