Ha, mentioning the MSIE UA string in this context was the worst example you could choose, it's full of additional junk these days indicating where the download came from and what features are installed. Most notably, the .NET versions are broadcasted (and thanks to Microsoft's carefulness also with Firefox browsers unless the user disables the global add-on and removes the UA-string additions it made), so this is a nice way for fingerprinting.

In contrast, look at Chrome or Safari, which are presenting the current version information in the UA string (so does Apple Mail, since Karsten mentioned Thunderbird). Nobody seems to have concerns there?
