In order to achieve consistent behaviour, I propose to fully drop this .com/.net/.org completion behaviour, since it has increasingly become obsolete:
- there are only 4 additional chars to type
- in a lot of countries/regions, this .com/.net/.org TLD trilogy does not really apply, or is at least overlaid with a local second-level-domain scheme.
- users get nowadays[*] great support in URL completion by the awesomebar
- there is nowadays[*] this search bar that lets you directly query your favourite search provider
[*] compared to the old Netscape 4 days, when this .com/.net/.org completion has been conceived
By the way, I'm wondering whether there are any Test Pilot usage statistics about the real usage numbers of [Ctrl-/Shift-/Ctrl-Shift-]Enter in the location bar... ?
