I went into profile manager and picked my new profile then started firefox. Firefox said the page request had timed out. There was no output back to my terminal session and neither in dmesg.

You can launch 'firefox -ProfileManager' again and select which profile
to use, then launch Firefox and it should launch using that profile
unless you specify otherwise.
Could you let us know what output you get when you run Firefox from a
terminal? Just run 'firefox', try to load a page, then close Firefox and
paste the output into a comment. Thanks in advance!

This is the first of 3 bug reports all about a similar problem
Firefox wont connect, Opera does as does Chromium and Update manager
The ubuntu-bug package wont either.
It doesnt give any error other than the connection to say google times out.
