This quickly neutralizes the bug for me (Linux Firefox, Sync Addon, symlinked profile)

$ firefox # runs OK
$ firefox --safe-mode # just exit in the safe-mode options prompt
$ firefox # runs OK

This command line as well
$ firefox --safe-mode && firefox
