That's why I took care to specify hierarchically-structured domains and to write (emphasis added) "*where* this is inappropriate", giving an example of a domain hierarchy where this *is* the case. I am well aware that many domains allow names to be registered directly under the domain identifier: it is Firefox's assumption that *all* domains operate in that manner that creates the bug for the other cases.
